    Liver Massage

If you are suffering from the typical liver ailments of spring time – sudden colds, dry throats, hay fever, bursts of anger – the following self massage may help. The liver meridian regulates qi flow throughout the body and maintains the body’s blood supply. When there is a stagnation or excess of qi in the meridian, mental and emotional problems may result, such as excessive anger, and sugar, drug and alcohol dependencies. Physically, there may be dizziness, stiff or weak muscles and joints, poor digestion, swollen stomach and lack of sexual energy.

Start at LV 1 (Dadun) and move in one direction to the end. Use your fingers, thumb or palm to apply gentle pressure along the entire meridian. Remember to massage meridians on both sides of the body. When you reach the end, return to LV 3 (Taichong) massaging and circling 36 times with thumb and finger. This acupoint is used for eye problems, regulating qi and blood in the torso, nausea and digestion problems, anger, irritability and insomnia.
