The Yin and Yang of Scents

    by Oxfordian Kissuth
This is the season for smells. More than at any other time of year we are aware of our sense of smell. We are surrounded by intoxicating smells of holiday cooking and baking and our homes are filled with the fresh pine scent of Christmas trees, scented candles, fragrant bath oils, aroma lamps and festive potpourri. But which are your favorite scents? Do you resonate with yang fragrances that stimulate, warm and energize, keeping you in a party mood? Or would you rather have the scents of yin, which offer peace, relaxation and quiet?

    YANG SCENTS
rosemary – stimulating, warming and helps blood circulation
ylang-ylang – warm, sensuous, stimulates the senses
    cinnamon – warming and strengthening
    petitgrain – lifts the spirits
lemongrass – brings optimism and fresh energy
    neroli – an aphrodisiac
    geranium – stimulates the senses

    YIN SCENTS
jasmine – relieves stress, bring self confidence
lavender – helps relieve emotional problems, good for insomnia
lemon balm – heart tonic, use to calm down or sleep after a shock
Roman camomile – calms the nerves, good for menopausal mood swings
