Although you might think twice before you try this healthy ”treat” yourself, it has been scientifically established that urea, a component of urine, consists mainly of minerals, hormones, and enzymes, which can be recycled by the body to promote energy and good health. Urea is used commercially in many hair removal products, skin moisturizers, hair conditioners, tooth whiteners, dish soap, and medically in topical dermatological products, such as skin creams to treat psoriasis and eczema.
Urine therapy consists of external application (massaging the skin) and internal application (drinking the urine). It is used in Ayurvedic medicine in India in both forms and has been found to be beneficial in treating many diseases, including cancer, gout, osteoporosis, asthma, diabetes and allergies. In general, it is said to boost the immune system. Here in the West, several celebrities have claimed that they have drunk their own urine or used it to cure skin complaints, such as callouses and athlete’s foot.
